On The Spot details cars where they are parked – at home or at work. Thomas O’Hearn’s idea for this new twist on the service won second place in a 2014 pitch contest sponsored by Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll) a Lowell-based non-profit. With the winnings, he invested in a vacuum cleaner and detailing supplies. Since then, he’s landed deals with office park managers from Lowell to Salem, N.H., to offer his services to tenants, and he services corporate fleets. He’s driven by the social impact of his business. “Being able to provide jobs is huge,” he says.
O’Hearn had an idea and hustle, but needed basic business skills and guidance to grow the business.
EforAll provided O’Hearn with a 12-week intensive business course, assigned him a mentor, and taught him about spreadsheets and financials, sales and pitches, and customer relations and marketing.
In 2015, On The Spot employed three detailers, exceeded sales projections and built a loyal customer base. Next season, O’Hearn expects to double his workforce and sales.
